Things that shouldn't cost money in 2026

It’s 2026. Here are things that still cost Malaysian businesses way too much:

Generating an e-invoice — Why are you paying someone to do this? It’s a form with 6 fields.

Filing your tax returns — It’s a website. You have the login. The runner is just clicking buttons for you.

Writing a basic employment contract — It’s the same template every time. You don’t need a RM 500 lawyer for this.

Posting on social media — 3 posts a week. You’re paying an agency RM 2,000/month for this?

Answering customer WhatsApp messages — “Hi, what’s your price?” “Do you have stock?” These are the same 10 questions every day.

Bookkeeping — Recording what came in and what went out. This is literally what computers were invented for.

Why does this still happen?

Because everyone around you says “that’s how it’s done.”

Your friend uses this accountant. Your uncle recommends that tax agent. The company secretary firm has been handling your SSM for years.

Nobody stops to ask: do I actually need these people?

The answer, increasingly, is no.

Not for everything. But for a lot more than you think.

That’s what we’re building at Desai Kampani. One by one, we’re going through the list.
